MR. EDWARD HARRIS—72 YEARS.[6]
The death occurred on Saturday last at the residence of his nephew, Mr. Reg Harris, of Mr. Edward Harris, at the age of 72 years, and who for the past six years has been living at the old home of his father and mother, the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harris, on Jamberoo mountain. He had not been well for some time and five weeks ago came to Mr. and Mrs. R. Harris' home for nursing and medical attention. For many years the late Mr. Harris was a resident of Singleton district, being engaged in farming, which he pursued all his life, for when the more arduous duties of such occupation were beyond him, he took over bee-keeping. On his return to this district, he bought the home which he was born in and practically ended his day there, as was his desire, when he came back. to the association of his youthful days.
The late Mr Edward Harris married a Miss Maria Stewart who emigrated to Australia from Scotland [aka Ireland][7] some 50 years ago, and they had the large family of 14 children—seven sons and seven daughters, all of whom are married and survive him. Other relatives are Messrs. John and George Harris, of Jamberoo, brothers; and Mrs. H. Snell, Queensland; Mrs. J. Ward, Smithtown, Macleay River; and Mrs. George Vidler, Jamberoo; sisters, with whom sympathy is expressed. The funeral was well attended on Sunday as a last evidence of respect the Rev. A. H. Johnstone officiating at the graveside in the Methodist cemetery, Jamberoo, and conducted a service before the cortege left the hime [sic.].
