On 28 November 1943, family and friends came together to celebrate the Golden Wedding Anniversary of George and Eliza at their home at "Mayville," Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia and the following was printed on page 3 of the The Kiama Reporter and Illawarra Journal on 1 December 1943:
Golden Wedding at Jamberoo. Mr. and Mrs. G. Vidler. Fifty years ago, on the 28th November, 1893, the marriage was solemnised by the Rev. C. J. McCoy of Miss Eliza Harris, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harris, and Mr. George Stephen Vidler, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vidler, at Rose Cottage, Jamberoo. On Sunday last, 28th November, some 25 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Vidler, "Mayville," Jamberoo, to celebrate the Golden Wedding anniversary. The wedding breakfast was very tastefully arranged, and pride of place was given to the beautiful golden wedding cake, made by Mrs. Vidler and very nicely decorated by Mr. J. Jones, of Jamberoo. Regret was expressed that Mrs. James Ward, of Smithtown, North Coast, Mrs. Vidler's sister and bridesmaid, was unable to be present, but she was ably represented by her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence, of Harbord. After the wedding cake was cut, little Norma Lawrence presented Mrs. Vidler with an Early Victorian posy, which had been made by Miss Myrtle Rutledge. Acknowledging congratulations and good wishes, Mr. Vidler thanked them all on behalf of his wife and himself. Many telegrams were received by the guests of honour from their four children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends [3].
