Daniel Alderman and his wife, Abigail (Harris), moved from Deerfields, New Jersey, Cohansey Precinct of Salem County, in the year 1755 to the state of North Carolina. Their seven children, three boys and four girls: John, Rachel, Mary, Daniel, David, Hannah and Abigail; perhaps all of them were born in Deerfields. They came by water to Wilmington where they remained a short time. Along with many others who came about the same time they made their way forty miles inland to the newly established Duplin County. They selected a small trace of land on the west side of Doctor's Creek and made their home in the forest.[3]
