He married Sarah Hartley in 1824 in Marion, Virginia. They had 13 children in 32 years. Elisha Hartley, his wife, Sarah, and three children are listed on the 1830 census for Monongalia County. They came to Henry County, Indiana before September 1833 when their son, Benjamin F., was born and settled in Prairie Twp. where they spent the rest of their lives. The 1850 U.S. Federal Census listed 6 children. The 1860 U. S. Federal Census listed 7 children. [1]
He died on June 12, 1869, at the age of 68, and was buried in Henry County, Indiana, in the Beech Grove Cemetery. [2]
