Biography

Mary Martha Haskins was born in 1697, in Henrico county, Virginia, a daughter of William Haskins and Hildreth Traylor. Her father wrote his Will on December 22, 1742, and it was recorded (proved) in May, 1745. In his Will, William names his daughter "Martha Spain, wife of Thomas Spain" and he makes his son-in-law one of his executors. [1]

Mary Martha Haskins and Thomas Spain were married May 20, 1728, in Prince George county, Virginia. Martha died in May, 1754, in Henrico county, Virginia. [2] [3] Children of Martha Haskins and Thomas Spain include:

  • Frances Spain, born December 9, 1729, christened March 30, 1730, in Prince George county, Virginia [4]
  • Prisilla Spain, born September 7, 1731, christened September 24, 1731, in Prince George county, Virginia [5]
  • David Spain, born March 1, 1732 in Prince George county, Virginia [6]

Frances Anne ( Fanny) Mays of Amelia Co, Va, was the daughter of John Mays and Frances Anne Spain of Prince George County, Va.; the granddaughter of Thomas Spain of Charles City County , Va. and Mary Haskins of Henrico County, Va. and William Mays and Mary Mattox. The Fields and Mays families moved to Rowan County, North Carolina .The Fields in the area that would be Surry County and the Mays in the area that would be Burke County.
