Research Notes

This name has been spelled several different ways; records found in Hossaflook and Hosaflook among others. The original family researchers found a birth record for Martha in a Family Bible; they translated the spelling as Hasseflute. Her parents were found later with much research through WikiTree, and changed her name to the "aka" of her father, Abraham Hosaflook, which also has numerous spelling variations, but Hasseflute is not found in any records.

The original family name is Hausenfluck, the Americanized spelling from Johann Henrich Hausenfluck, a German Hessian soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War with the British, and stayed in America marrying a Virginian woman. This is the "gateway ancestor" for this family, coming from Germany, where the family name was Hassenpflug.
