John's birth was not recorded in Watertown, but he was baptized in 1687 together with his younger sisters. He is presumed to be the eldest son of John Hastings (1654-1718), in part because he was the administrator of the estate of his father who died intestate. He is mentioned frequently in the probate records, which[1] name three daughters: the late Abigail (represented by John Warren on behalf of her 4 daughters) , Elizabeth represented by husband Hopestill Mead, and Hephzibah Shattuck (widow), and five sons: John, William, Thomas, Samuel, and Joseph. The date of his marriage suggests he may have been born around 1681.
John married, first, Susannah Bemis on November 6, 1702 in Watertown.[2]
John Hastings married Sarah Fiske, as his second wife, in Watertown on January 8, 1706-7.[3]
In 1720, at Concord, John was one of the 80 men allotted land in Turkey Hills, which was to become Lunenburg.[4] Then he, Sarah, and their children removed from Watertown to Lunenburg, Worcester County, sometime between 1722 and 1731.
