Biography

James Hay, son of William Hay and Helen Gray, was baptised in the parish of Penicuick, Midlothian on 12 April 1771.[1]

James married Mary Ramsayon 18 Apr 1801 in the parish of Edinburgh, Midlothian. [2][3]

The couple reputedly had 12 children including:

  1. Helen Hay (born Tiverton, Devon 7 June 1806)[4]
  2. Ann Hay (born Tiverton, Devon 24 January 1807)[5]
  3. Mary Hay (born Tiverton, Devon 3 September 1807)[6]
  4. Georgiana Christian Hay (born Tiverton, Devon 4 April 1810)[7]
  5. Caroline Ramsay Hay (baptised Cockpen, Midlothian 5 October 1820).[8]

James was buried in Fort William, Calcutta, India on 12 October 1822.[9]

James Hay (of Collipriest House, Tiverton, Devon) was part of the Hay of Pitfour family, Perthshire.
