Watson Hayes was born on Dec 7, 1840 in Poland, Maine. He was son of Sewell Flagg Hayes and Sewell's first wife Eliza Hoyt who was from Naples, Maine. His mother died in 1846 when she was 30 years old.
In 1860 Watson lived in Stoneham, Massachusetts [1] where at 20 years old he lived as a boarder with others.
