Anna Henlein was born about 1616 in Grünsfeld, Baden, Germany, to
Sabastianus Heinlein and Anna Unknown[1].
No birth record for Anna Henlein has been located. Her name, however, is mentioned in a marriage record for Hannss/Johann Roessner. Although Johann and Hannss can be distinct names, the latter, Hannss, was often a nickname or shortened version of the former, Johann[2][3][4].
Anna was born, married and had children during the devastating destruction of the Thirty Years War. She and her husband must have worried a great deal about how the fortunes of war would treat them. We know that their village, Grünsfeld, lay in the path of some of the armies and suffered areas of ruin. They may have sought shelter within the walls of the castle. The war tended to pit Catholics and Lutherans against each other, while the nobles and aristocratic families fought for control over the people. Being caught on the road by either army was likely a death sentence. Many moved to the safety of larger cities and the population throughout the country declined [5].
Marriage
Anna Henlein married Johann Roessner on Sept 27, 1636, in Grünsfeld, Baden, Germany.
Event Place Katholisch, Gruensfeld, Mosbach, Baden
Spouse's Father's Name Sebastian Henlein
Anna (Henlein) Roessner has roots in the region now known as Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Her father's full name was probably Sebastianus Heinlein. Siblings are found for her born in the same place, having the same father, who married about the same time she did and began having children as well. The last name for the same people is spelled various ways: Heinlein, Heinleins, Hähnlein, and Hähn. They appear with the same names, locations and dates, depending on which record or translation is found.
No birth records for her father, Sebastian Henlein have been found, either. It could be due to an alternate spelling or misspelling of the surname.
Anna Henlein Roessner likely died sometime after her husband's death in 1673, as his death record cited that she was left behind[14]. By the time she died, the country was at peace. She lived to see her children marry and have children of their own. No doubt she hoped they would see better times than she had.
