Biography

1776 Project
James Henry served with Civil Service, North Carolina during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
James Henry is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A053759.

James Henry was born about 1750, in Virginia and was living in Washington county, North Carolina at the time of the Revolutionary War. Part of the Washington District became Washington county, Tennessee, in 1777, where James was a Tax Assessor, in 1781. James would have been responsible for levying taxes to help pay the costs incurred by the Continental Congress. . [1]

James Henry is honored for his Civil Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A053759. DAR records indicate that James died in 1792, in Knox county of Territory South of the River Ohio, what was then the Southwest Territory. The Southwest Territory, was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from May 26, 1790, until June 1, 1796, when it was admitted to the United States as the State of Tennessee. DAR records name his wife as Jean McNabb, and applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their sons, William Henry, who married Mary "Polly" Gamble; John Henry, who married Sarah Smith; James M. Henry, who married 1) Jane Garner and Nancy Keeny; Samuel Henry, who married 1) Elizabeth Garner and 2) Deborah McClain; and Hugh Henry, whose wife was Elizabeth (?nee): and of their daughter, Ruby Catherine Henry, who married Joseph Black, and Rachel Henry, who married John Garner. [2]

James Henry is buried in the Headrick-Henry Cemetery. There is a photograph of his headstone on his Find A Grave memorial. There is a pile of rocks to the left beside the grave of James that is believed to be the marker for the grave of Jean (McNabb) Henry, born July 25, 1752, died 1812. [3]
