Sylvania Herd married Denton Farmer on June 15, 1854. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky and he in Claiborne County (Tenn.?) . Her age is stated as 18, but this seems to be contradicted by other records indicating a different year of birth. [1] [2]
Denton appears to have been a Civil War participant based on a pension record from 1867. [3]
During the 1870 US Census at Traveler's Rest, Kentucky, Sylvania appears with a number of Children. She was a recent widow at this point, Denton having died in 1868. She and all of her children are listed as born in Kentucky. [4]
Her children with Denton Farmer were:
Icey Farmer b. about 1855 Rebecca J Farmer b. about 1857 Mary A Farmer b. about 1861 General M Farmer b. about 1895 Margaret E Farmer b. about 1868
In 1900 Sylvania resided at Jackson Kentucky with her daughter Mary Ann who had married Albert Frost. Sylvania had a granddaughter living with her named Sylvania Frost. The family resides near Austin Farmer and William Farmer who appear to be relations. [5]
