Moses Herman was born in 1812. He was the son of Peter (Herrmann) Herman and Lydia Simmons. He married Maria Margaretha (Hunsucker) Herman. Moses Herman was an early resident of the Town of Conover (first "Y", then "Canova" which was geographically centered in Catawba County. He owned much of the land between the junction point and the city of Newton along the road leading from Oxford Ford beside which the town of Conover was springing up. The Herman land was sold to John Q. Seitz. After his first wife passed away in 1877, he married Lydia (Longcrier) Herman. He passed away in 1891.
