Thankful was born in 1738 in Eastham, Massachusetts, the child of Thomas Higgins and Abigail Paine^{[1] [2] [3]}.

On November 25, 1756 she married Isaac Freeman, the son of Ebenezer Freeman and Abigail Young of Wellfleet, Massachusetts^{[4] [5] [6] [7]}, and Their children included:

1. Edmund, born March 2, 1757 in Wellfleet^[8], who married Ruth Wiley April 3, 1777^{[6] [7]}
2. Isaac, Jr, born October 28, 1758^[9], who married Hannah Collins of Truro, October 5, 1782^{[6] [7]}
3. Ann, born Sept 6, 1760^[10], who married Isaac Atwood April 4, 1779^{[6] [7]}
4. Benjamin, born October 18, 1762^[11], who married Mercy Atwood December 17, 1789^{[6] [7]}
5. Thankful, born November 9, 1766^[12], who married John Y Newcomb January 20, 1785^{[6] [7]}
6. Jonathan, born December 30, 1768^[13], who died in infancy^{[6] [7]}
7. Ebenezer, born October 21, 1773^{[14] [6] [7]}
8. Jonathan, born December 20, 1779^[15], a twin, who married Susanna Atwood October 29, 1803; and then married Eunice Newcomb January 31, 1824^{[6] [7]}
