Born in Illinois, Fred met Hattie in Iowa, and by 1900, he was in Seattle, WA after trying his luck in the Klondike gold rush. He worked for the Seattle Electric Company, first as a wick trimmer, working his way up to meter reader and lineman. He lived in Queen Anne in a small home on 13th Ave West with his wife, Hattie, from 1908 until his passing in 1934. His tombstone has an IOOF marker, as he was a long-time member.
