Biography

  • Wife of Zachariah Deaton, married November 9, 1843 in Van Buren Co. , TN. She was a granddaughter of Joseph and Roseanne Medley Cummings. She and Zachariah Deaton were parents of Sarah Josephine Deaton (b.1844) and James Elijah "Polk" Deaton b.Dec.25,1855 d. Jan 16,1917.
  • Her first marriage was to Samson Goddard (1807-1837, son of Moses and Jane Smallman Goddard). They were parents of one daughter, Elizabeth Goddard Keathley b.1838.
  • Per census of 1850,Zach Deaton (age 37) and Catherine (age 36) lived in District 6, Van Buren Co. Children in household were Caroline (age 11) Josephine (age 6) and James Elijah (age 4).
  • Per census of 1860,Zachariah was (age 46) Catherine was (46) Caroline was (19), Josephine was age (17) James Elijah was age(15) and they lived in McMinnville, TN.
  • Caroline J. Deaton was born in 1839 and a daughter of Zach Deaton from his first marriage. He had four other daughters from his first marriage: Louisa (b.1835),Monday M.(born 1836), Mary Ann (born 1837) and Frances (born 1841).
