Biography
Joseph was born 16 May 1758 in Wrentham, Norfolk County Massachusetts to parents Jabez Hills and Margaret Fisher. [1] His birth, 16 May 1758 is also recorded in the Wrentham, Massachusetts town vital records.[2]
A marriage intention was published 18 August 1780 in Upton, Worcester, Massachusetts between Joseph Hills and Esther Ellis.[3] Joseph Hills married Esther Ellis on 7 December 1780 at Franklin, Norfolk, Massachusetts.[4] Joseph and Esther had the following known children:
- Joel, b. 1 Sep 1781, Upton, Worcester, MA; m. Roda Partridge (a cousin) who was b.1781; Briefly lived in Canada but returned; Soldier, War of 1812 (1812-1814);[5]
- Julia Ellis, m. Grafton, Worcester, MA, 12 Jan 1801, Ezekiel Johnson of Uxbridge, MA[6] Julia d. 30 May 1853, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States
- Nancy, b. 16 Jul 1785, Upton, Worcester, MA; m. 21 Aug 1803, George Washington Taft at Grafton, MA.
At the age of 29 years Joseph Hills died 21 October 1787 and was buried in the Old Oak St. Burial Ground Cemetery, Grafton, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.[7] His widow Esther Ellis Hills married second in 1793 Enoch Forbush.
