Captain John Hinds served with North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

John Hinds is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A055161.

When John Henry Hinds Sr was born on 9 June 1745, in Mendham, Morris, New Jersey, his father, Joseph Hinds, was 39 and his mother, Rutha Baldwin Higgins, was 36.

He married Abigail Bayles after 1765, in Morris Township, Morris, New Jersey. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters.

He registered for military service in 1779. [1]

He died on 25 August 1810, in Knox, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 65.

A newspaper article from "Rockwood Times" of Rockwood, TN, 28 Aug 1924 stated that when John Hinds arrived in Tennessee to claim the 1,000 acres of land granted for services during the American Revolution in the year 1792 that he was accompanied by "4 sons, 2 daughters, and a brother-in-law named Joseph Seaton."

He is mentioned in the will of Joseph Hinds (1770-04-04)
