John was born in 1907^[1] He was the son of George Hinkley and Edith Oakley. He was christened 19th July 1908 at St. Peter and Paul, Mitcham, Surrey, England^[2] He was living with his parents and siblings at Mitcham, Westfields Mitcham, Surrey, England in 1911^[3] He married Florence Carr in Epsom, Surrey, England in 1929^[4] He was the father of 5 children.
