Biography
Dorcas HINMAN was born 13 Dec 1736 in Woodbury, Litchfield Co., Connecticut to Eleazer and Hannah Hinman. [1][2]

Research Notes
In 1774 Phineas Potter, from Westbury, owned land in Winstead. In that year, accompanied by sons Daniel and Sheldon, he built a shanty on the west side of the Still River. The family, wife Dorcas and children (Sheldon, Daniel, Salmon and Freedom) lived in the shanty until a permanent house was built, becoming the first family to settle in the Still River Valley south of the Old North Road.[4]
