Biography

Hulda Hinshaw was born on Feb 11th, 1824 in Holly Spring MM, Randolph, North Carolina. Her parents were Jacob Hinshaw and Mary Davis.[1]

She married Ashley Swain Craven, 23 March 1847, Randolph County, North Carolina. Ashley, son of Thompson Craven and Mary Yeargin, was born Dec 2 1824, Randolph County, North Carolina. To this union were born:

  1. Daniel Newton Craven 1848 - 1890.
  2. Rev. Jacob Linus Craven 1849 - 1917

  7. Tacy Hannah Craven 1859 - 1893.

A marriage bond was recorded for Huldah and Ashley Craven on Mar 23 1847, Randolph County, North Carolina.

At Holly Spring MM on 5-20-1848, a Huldah Craven was disowned for her marriage contrary to discipline. This minute did not mention Hinshaw so it isn't certain that this minute refers to Huldah Hinshaw Craven, but it seems likely.

Huldah and Ashley and family were shown in the 1850 census, Randolph County, North Carolina, as follows:

Ashley Craven, age 25, born in North Carolina; farmer; $150 real estate.
Huldah Craven, age 25, born in North Carolina.
Daniel S. [unclear] Craven, age 2, born in North Carolina.
Jacob L. Craven, age 1, born in North Carolina.

In 1856 Huldah and family moved to Iowa.

Ashley died Apr 23 1889, Dallas County, Iowa; buried Bear Creek Cemetery, Dexter, Dallas County, Iowa. Ashley died from grangrene of the right foot and leg.
