As of the 1900 Census, Joe was living in the household of John and Maggie Hirsh in Raymond, KS, along with sister Mary Hirsch who was born in Ohio. By 1910, he is married and living with wife Marie in Raymond, KS with their two oldest daughters. In the 1930 Census, he shows to still be living in Raymond with his wife Marie (listed as Mary), 4 sons, and 6 daughters. Additional information listed on this census indicates that he was 21 and Marie was 18 at the time of their marriage and he is working as a farmer.
Interestingly, several lines above the Hirsh family on the 1930 Census, is the family of H.C (Henry Clyde) Bever (Bever-120). Joe and Marie's grandson Wayne Werner (Werner-1555) (son of Leona Hirsh (Hirsh-98) and Leo Werner (Werner-1556)) would go on to marry H.C. Bever's youngest daughter Julia A Bever (Bever-118) in 1948.
