Amherst Bee newspaper death notice 30 Oct 1890 copied from Buffalo Sunday Express 20 Nov 1890: "A New York Pioneer. A sketch of the Life of the late James Hitchcock of Cheektowaga." (obituary/article is too extensive to reprint, on file at the Cheektowaga Historical Museum)
Born in Hartford,CT Nov. 6, 1805, the youngest of nine children. Died Sunday, buried 29 Oct 1890 Cheektowaga. James was the last living of the sixth generation from the original Luke Hitchcock. Survived by his son James Ladd. Member of the Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. Funeral services conducted by his friend & pastor, Rev. Dr. Waith.
