1798: Hitchcock family moves to Wolfe Island: "The first settlers on Wolfe Island subsequent to the French were United Empire Loyalists. The vanguard in 1798 consisted of members of the Davis, Hitchcock, Hinckley, and Cone families." (source: "Wolfe Island: A Legacy in Stone", p.76)
1817: Archibald signed a settler petition for Wolfe Island.
1822: On the Chewett survey of Wolfe Island, "A. Hitchcock" occupies a strip of land in the Old Survey, the section along the coast facing Kingston.
Ferry operator Thomas Davis drowned in 1821, leaving a widow Mary Hinckley Davis and 7 children, according to reports. Mary continued to operate the ferry between Wolfe Island and Kingston. In 1824 she married Archibald Hitchcock Jr., son of Samuel -- who had originally launched the ferry service in 1802 and died circa 1815.[1]
Archibald & Mary had at least 4 children together, including 2 sons John & Oliver Hitchcock.
The 1832 census of Wolfe Island lists "Archabul Hitchcock" as head of a household of 12 persons.
Archibald Hitchcock "died Nov 9th 1842. Aged 48 years & 7 months"[2]
