Went to work for Lockheed California Company (where both parents worked before their death in 1973. I was the first female manufacturing engineer that they ever hired. (picture in the Lockheed Star my first week of being employed, photographed with an outgoing engineer with the caption "Out with the old and In with the New" Ouch...

Funny story:

1974, Terri, UCLA campus
In Aug 1974, soon after 18 year-olds had been granted the right to vote [July 1, 1971, our Nation ratified the 26th Amendment to the Constitution, lowering the voting age to 18] - That also meant serving on jury duty. - I was 20 years old at the time.
During summer break between my sophomore and Junior year from UCLA school of engineering, I was called up for jury duty for a civil trial which required technical knowledge of chemistry and chemical reactions to manufacturing processes.
At just 20 years old, wearing my mini skirt and eating tic tac candies, I was questioned as a prospective juror. Both the defendant and prosecutor's lawyers thought I would be an easy "disqualification".
They asked me my current occupation - answer none, but on college summer break - studying Engineering. Just completed basics in chemistry and physics. They did not expect that - the female engineering college representation was less than 10%.
They said they assumed there was no "Mr. Hoch" assuming I would understand that they wanted to know if I was married. I asked them how they knew my father had just died ? - (My father passed away the prior year) - They stood there speechless.
They asked what his occupation was - and I told them he installed major chemical treatment facilities at Lockheed - which was remarkably similar to the subject of the civil suit.
They asked about my mother - and I said she was a chemist at Lockheed. They challenged me to see if I knew anything about what she worked on, and when I gave them a rundown of her patent research and her accomplishments they were again speechless.
With each question they doubted me and they challenged me to prove my knowledge and background. With every answer - they scoffed and disbelieved me. laughing rather rudely. I mentioned the dinnertime conversations about my parents' daily discussions of their issues and accomplishments and my science fair projects of electroplating metals in my 11th grade science class.
At the end of their questioning, the judge actually laughed out loud as the lawyers had no choice but to allow me onto the jury.
During the course of the trial, the consultant went to the board and wrote a chemical formula pertinent to his decision to recommend a particular application of equipment - during the next jury recess - I told the rest of the jurors that he got the equation wrong and that is what caused the system to fail.
Never underestimate a chick with long blond hair and a short skirt who studies engineering :)

My first job was a manufacturing Engineer at Lockheed - and everyone I met said "Oh- your Harry's daughter or you Gerry's daughter "... So I fit right in...

Worked on computerized scheduling and assembly plans for military aircraft production lines.

Continued taking extension classes at UCLA. Class on Space Shuttle integration and met Pete Sorenson, another employee of Lockheed -but he worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company - in Sunnyvale Calif.

He called me after the end of that summer and offered me a job in Sunnyvale making satellites. He said "I can't tell you what we do, and who we work with - but I can tell you it will be a challenging job. Boy was that an understatement.

On my first day in Sunnyvale, I was given a desk immediately across the aisle from Jeff - and our supervisor set us up on our first date...roller skating. The rest is history.

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

Terri, I'd like to resolve some questions around Susannah (Holloway) Burchfiel (1785-1829). I can't resolve in my Holloway research that she's a daughter of Amos and Hephizbah Stanton. I'm very prepared to be proven wrong and would be grateful if you can do so.

Thanks, Joe

Terri Since she married a Stout tried to connect since I am Stout descendant Tried the DAR Vol III book no luck and need book and page for a source. Some info on My heritage with birth, parents, etc but no source. The only thing solid is the 1850 and 1855 census so far. Know a Joseph Buttrick served in a Stout's unit in the Rev War. Cannot find in Findagrave at all. Know Stout's married to Farnsworth and Howell on Long Island but could not connect. Thanks for the quick reply.
This is my sister's hubby's line. We are both members of DAR. Members can purchase copies of the file documentation/sources used for approved patriots. She just submitted a refreshed documentation for for Oliver Butterick (because the original was too old) and so this will include data on David Conovor Stout. I can ask for her documentation. I just sent her a note. She also just replied and said she just heard that a Hackley member has a copy of the Stout family bible... I don't know who is in this bible- but probably includes the Stouts related to Esther Hackley per the original DAR submittal. Stay tuned for more info. PS. my Aunt is also a Stout - I have no idea if they are connected, but I believe my Aunt's line goes to the Samuel Stout b 1676 Dragon Run, New Castle, Delaware.

Terri, Have been working on this family and so far all that has been found are censuses. Suggest the profiles on this family have confirming sources for birth, death, other information.
The DAR probably has more specifics and sources for this lineage since it is documented in their ancestor book.
