Biography

Isham was born in 1788. He was the son of Isham Hodges and Elizabeth Clay.

Isham III married Sarah (Sally) Cochran March 6, 1812. [1]

Isham III witnessed a land deed for his father on November 4, 1812, in Smith County, Tennessee.

By 1816 Isham III had 38 acres of land on which he was taxed in Sumner Co., TN by 1816 where he was taxed on 38 acres of land on Caney Fork Creek. By 1820 he paid tax on 47 acres and by 1826 he had 127 acres.

1820 census reflects Isham III living in Gallatin, Tennessee, with 6 in the family. [2]

Isham Hodges died 3 September, 1826. He had signed his will with an X on 1 September, 1826, possibly being too weak to sign his signature. The will was witnessed by Roland T. Hodges, Aaron Hodges, and William W. Ausbrooks. Meredith Hodges was the Executor of his will. Isham Hodges will was exhibited in the November term of Court in 1826. His will names seven children including the full name of Daniel Stokes Hodges.[4][5]
