Biography

John Hodges was born in Taunton, Mass in 1650, the son of William Hodges and Mary Andrews.[1][2] " John Hodges was a man of enterprise and accumulated a large amount of real estate", and was one of the original purchasers of Taunton South Purchase (Dighton). He was on a Coroner's Jury in 1672. In 1682, he was in the Taunton Military Company, and in 1684 was appointed the Constable of Taunton. In 1709 he gave an acre of land to the "first minister" who should settle in Taunton North Precinct (Norton)[2] John Hodges and Elizabeth Macey, married May 15, 1672,[3] in Taunton,Mass.

In 1655, in a deed of gift from his mother, Mary Hodge Pitts, signed by her new husband Peter Pitts, gave John 30 pounds, her house and lot, and all lands except what she gave to his brother Henry.[4]
