Biography

Elijah was born in 1824. He passed away in 1894. He used the Huffman spelling.

Died, April 6, 1894, Elijah S. Hoffman, aged 69 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was born in Monongalia county, Va., June 1st, 1824. In 1844 he emigrated to Frederick county, Md., where he married Martha King, and in 1849 returned to Reno district, Preston county, W. Va., where he has resided since. In 1863 he enlisted in Capt. Simpson’s Co. B, 4th W. Va. Cavalry, serving with credit, and never saw a well day from his discharge to his death. He leaves a wife, four sons, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters, namely: John A., of Neosha county, Kansas; F. M., of Marquess, this county; Mrs. A. R. Hall, of Wetzel county, W. Va., and Mrs. S. E. Johnson, of Smithtown, Monongalia county, with many other friends.

He is buried in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Marquess, Preston County, West Virginia, USA (name is Huffman on tombstone); served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
