Biography

He was born Jens and anglicized his first name to James, as indicated in the 1930 Census. I have seen, but cannot prove that his original middle name may have been Mettevsa.

Parents are Jorgen & Christina Holdt of Denmark

Per unsourced family tree provided by Karalee Walker [Faw-310]: When he was 24 he left his home in Denmark and sailed on the ship Augustua Victoria, from Hamburg Germany. He landed in New York in 1890 after 5 days. He settled in Hazard, NE and worked various jobs in Omaha, NE. He married Christina Rhode, a sister of Mrs. Jens Krichau on 10 Mar 1896.

The couple lived on a farm 2.5 mi NE of Hazard. They lived for sometime in a sodhouse until they built a frame house and other farm improvements. They made their living and reared and educated their children at the farm. They were quiet, friendly people, good neighbors and good citizens. They enjoyed their neighbors, many of the Danish descent, such as the Jacobsons, Andersons, Spangburgs, Petersons, Jensens, and Bensens, to name a few. They were both baptized in the Danish Lutheran Faith. They continued to live in the home on the farm until forces to retire in 1937 for health reasons. They then moved into a small home across the street west of the Methodist Church where they lived until their deaths (James 4 Aug 1944 & Christina 26 Jul 1949).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
