Biography

From "The Holliday Families of Copiah county"[1]

William Holliday Sr. born in 1723, and his wife Ann Ayres immigrated to America, from Ireland after 1750, landing in Carolina.
By 1772 they had migrated to Georgia and in January 1772 were granted 100 acres of land on the Kioka (Kyoka) Creek, within five miles of Joshua Bradley’s mill, (St. Paul’s Parish). Quickly acquiring 350 acres.
At the age of 53, William served as a private in the ‘Georgia Line’ during the American Revolutionary War. He received a bounty grant of land for his service in Wilkes county Georgia.
In 1778, at the age of 55, William died in Wilkes County, GA, leaving his estate to his wife, Ann, and his living children, six sons and five daughters.
Ann was recorded in the 1790 census along with Ayres, Thomas, and William Jr., living in Wilkes County, GA, district ‘G’.

Jane, Mary, Ann, and Elizabeth and to sons Robt., Wm., and Thos., five shillings each. To son Abraham a gray horse. To dau. Mary white mare and dun heifer. To son John sorrel mare. To dau. Margery a black spotted heifer. To son Abraham plantation tools, etc. Wife Ann sole Excx.
Signed Sept. 21, 1778. Proved in presence of the widow July 7, 1786. Holman Freeman, R. P. Wm. Ayers, John Smith, Thos. McDowell, Test.
