Mary Elizabeth Holmes was born 14 Sep 1913 in Shreveport, Caddo, Louisiana, United States. Her parents were Yates Lafayfette Holmes and Mary Rae (Stoner) Chandler. They lived in Louisiana and moved to Tempe, Arizona before the 1920 Census. George C. Yount, pioneer of Yountville California, is the third great grandfather of Mary. [1]
She married first to John L. Sullivan on June 3rd, 1932, in Orange County, California. [2] John L., son of John L. Sullivan and Cora A (Stone) Sullivan, and was born on Sep. 30, 1908. John Jr. died on Oct. 1, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, United States. They divorced in 1936 but had one son John G. Sullivan before the split.
She married 2nd, Maurice 'Brownie' Brown. Brownie was born about 1902 in Nebraska and died on Oct. 31, 1959 in Los Angeles, California.
According to her marriage license, she was a welder and shipbuilder.
Mary was listed as a "Proprietor of Cafe (Owner in 1940 Census) Los Angeles, CA in 1940."
She died 18 Aug 1983 in Santa Barbara, California, United States.
