James was born about 1754 in North Carolina. He passed away about 1837 in Tennessee. He married Lydia Read.
In the early 1800's James brought his family to Wilson County, Tennessee, near Lebanon, Tennessee. He owned 194 A. on the e. side of Middle Prong, on Barton's Creek, in Montgomery County, TN.
James contested his father Thomas' will and lost the case.

In Sept. 24 1995, I visited the grave of Jesse Holt (s/o Jas.) in Lebanon, Tennessee, which has been marked by the Nat. Soc. U.S. Dau. of War of 1812.
You mentioned Eagly Holt born about 1828 who m. Elias G. Neville as being a d/o James Holt; I believe she was d/o Mary "Polly" Holt (d/o Joseph and Nancy Holt) and an unknown Holt father.[1]
