Tabitha may be the same as "Toba" Hood, age 15, born KY, who was residing in the household of Coleman Arthur in the 1860 census for Greenup County, Kentucky. Although Toba was listed as a male, examining the original record reveals the person was first designated "F" for female and then was overwritten with an "M" for male. An explanation for this may be the census taker did not speak with Toba directly and depended on one of the adults in the household for the list and ages of persons in the household. The name Toba sounds like Toby a masculine name and on going back and re-reading the name the census taker changed it from a female to a male.[2]
Adding to the confusion, there is a Kentucky Death Record for a male Tobe Hood (age 50, born 1861) died 31 Oct 1911 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Father's Name Dont Know; Mother's Name Dont Know[3][4]
