Patience Hopkins was the daughter of Ezekiel Hopkins and Elizabeth Jenks. She was born about 1733 or 1734 either in Providence, Rhode Island or in Scituate, Rhode Island. Her birth date was based on her age of 57 at death on 1 March 1791.
The wills of Ezekiel Hopkins of Scituate and Elizabeth Hopkins of Scituate proved that Patience Hopkins was their daughter. Her mother mentioned Patience Seamans in her will, dated 11 September 1763 and proved 21 May 1768 in Scituate, Providence County, Rhode Island [1]
Patience Hopkins married John Seamans sometime before 1748, likely in Scituate, Providence County, Rhode Island.
Burial: Chippenhock Cemetery, Rutland County, Vermont, USA.
No marriage is found for them in Scituate; however, it is more likely that they were married in Scituate because Patience Hopkins' father Ezekiel Hopkins was the resident of Scituate, Rhode Island. Apparently, John Seamans moved his residence from Swansea, Massachusetts to Scituate, Rhode Island sometime before 1748.
They had the following children.
However, the birth records of their children are not found in Scituate, Rhode Island and the exclusion of their names in the birth records of Scituate cannot be explained.
Patience Seamans died on 1 March 1791 in Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont, and she was buried at Chippenhook Cemetery, Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont.[2]
