Biography

Bethia Horton was born in 1679 in Southold, New York, the daughter of Joshua Horton and Mary Tuthill by one source or the daughter of Joshua Horton and Mary Wheeler by another source. She married Ichabod Hallock, the son of Thomas Hallock and Hope Comstock, in January of 1716.

Joshua Jr. was born in 1669 and died December 31, 1749. He married Elizabeth Grover about 1693. He married (2nd) Mary (Budd) Gillom on January 5, 1716. He married (3rd) widow Crane on July 23, 1724. 2. Sarah was born March 31, 1674. She married Richard Terry Jr., in 1691. 3. Bethia was born in 1679 and died January 8, 1754. She married Ichabod Hallock in January of 1716. 4. Mary was born about 1685 and died September 1702. She married John Peck on June 26, 1701. 5. Ephraim was born in 1685/6 and died January 9, 1733. He married Martha Vail on December 19, 1706. 6. Zerviah was born about 1693 and died after March 1722/3. She married Samuel Case about 1712. 7. Elizabeth was in Joshua's household as a child in the 1698 census but is not in his will dated March 23, 1722/3.

Second Generation — Joshua 1: Joshua, son of Barnabas Horton 1, born at Southold, L. I., in 1643; married, about 1667, Mary Tuthill. In 1673, '76, '78 and '95 he deeds land to various persons. In 1676 he is one of the patentees of Southold, and has six males and five females in his family. He is a Lieutenant in 1693. (See "Moore's Indexes of Southold", p. 88) He died in Southold, 1729. His wife died 2 January, 1718. Children, all born in Southold:1. Joshua, ensign, born 1669. 2. Joseph, born 1671; married. 3. Sarah, born 1673; married Richard Terry, son of Richard 1. 4. Mary, born  ; married 2 January, 1708, Zaccheus Goldsmith. 5. Bethia, born  ; married in Jan., 1716, Ichabod Hallock. She died 1753. 6. Keziah or Zerniah, married Israel Cose (Note: Israel Cose crossed out - handwritten entry of what looks like Samuel Case) 7. Ephraim, born 1786; married, in 1707, Martha Vail.[2]

Horton-1383 and Horton-6 appear to represent the same person because: They have very similar names (Bethia/Berthia), both are married to Henry Tuthill III, both have sons by him named Henry, both born in 1660s, place unknown.
