Biography

1776 Project
Captain Daniel Howe served with Montgomery County, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Daniel Howe is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A058241.

Daniel was born 20 Sep1758. Daniel Howe At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the army against the Indians, and was probably with Col. Christian on his expedition to join Gen. Andrew Lewis in his campaign in 1774, and arriving upon the battlefield of Point Pleasant, the day after the battle, of which he gave a description. He afterwards enlisted as a Revoiutionary soldier, and semed at intervals throughout the war, attaining to the rank of captain. He belonged to Capt. Henry Patton's Company of Col. William Preston's Regiment, but served under various other commanders, and was engaged principally on the frontier of Virginia and North Carolina. After the Revolution he became a Major in the militia, He succeeded to the "Sunnyside" homestead of his father, where he died z Jan. 1838. His tombstone in cemetery on the old homestead, bears this inscription, "In youth a soldier of the Revolution, in old age a soldier of the cross." [1]
