Her grave marker is in the Acord Cemetery in Bolt, Raleigh County, West Virginia. Viewing the photos of Find A Grave, it appears possible (but is not so stated) that the grave markers for Elcey and her husband, George Snuffer, were not originals, and may have been installed at a much later time. The cemetery grave marker presents Elsey's name as "Ailsie Huff Snuffer."[2] Husband George Snuffer, Jr.'s grave marker is also in this cemetery and "George Snuffer, Jr." is what appears on the grave marker.[3] However, the Find A Grave record is under "Schnauffer / Snuffer." "Schnauffer" (and possible variant spellings) was a historic or ancestral spelling George's grandfather may have been known as. However, the surname became Americanized and simplified spellings were subsequently used by descendants. Why the ancestral form of the surname was included in Find A Grave is not explained, but it can make it impossible to find the memorial by doing a name search.
Notes
Her name appeared as "Elcey" in her father's 1822 will.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) lineage has been said to show her given name as "Elsey."
