Obituary in the "Marvyille Tribune" newspaper (Maryville, Nodaway, Missouri) dated Thursday, 10 Aug 1899 states he "died Wednesday" which could be the day before, August 9, or the prior week which would be August 2.
The Hughes family Bible lists the date as August 2, 1899 (see photo).
