Biography

Caleb (Humiston) Humastun was born on 20 Feb 1715 in North Haven, New Haven, Connecticut Colony, son of John Humiston (1686 - 1767) and Hannah (Ray) Humiston (1693 - 1786).[1][2]

His siblings were:

  1. John Humiston III (1713 - 1781)
  2. Mary (Humiston) Mattoon (1718 - 1806)
  3. David Humiston (1720 - )
  4. Sarah (Humiston) Tuttle (1723 - 1787)
  5. Ephraim Humiston (1730 - 1806)

Caleb married Susanna Todd (1718 - 1806) on 14 Nov 1738 in New Haven.[3] Their children were:

  1. Susannah (Humaston) Hungerford (1747 - )
  2. Jesse Humiston (1749 - 1837)
  3. Mehitable (Humiston) Fenn (1752 - 1825)
  4. Annis (Humiston) Sutliff (1759 - 1825).

Caleb died on 6 Mar 1776 in Waterbury, New Haven aged 61.[4]

"Caleb Humastun died the richest man in Northbury/Plymouth in 1776. His estate included 2 negro slaves. He was a justice of the Peace,oath taker for the army during the French and Indian wars. Total land holdings of approx 1000 acres. Some lands partners with brothers John and David. Family changed name spelling to Humiston after Caleb died."
