Biography

William Malon Hunt was born October 23, [1] 1854 in Georgia. [2] [3] [4] [5]

William Hunt was the son of James L. Hunt and Millie Richardson. He first appeared in the 1860 census for Hartwell, Hart County, Georgia. [6] William was the fourth child. His siblings in 1860 were: Nancy E., Mary F., Joice Catherine, and James.

William married Lettie Amanda Dooly on December 28, 1871 in Floyd County, Georgia. [7]

June 14,1880, William Malon Hunt's family information appeared in the census following the entry for William (Wilderson) Hunt's family. William (Wilderson) Hunt was the oldest son of Hullum Hunt. [ Katy Hunt, my great-grandmother wrote a list for William Hunt, her husband's grandfather, which included his wives and children. Letters in the family archive from cousins supported a family relationship.] In 1880, William (Malon) Hunt was a 26 year old farmer. His wife was identified as Mandy, age 27. They had three children: Eddie, (7); Charlie, (5); and Lizzie, (10 months).[4] They lived next door to William (Wilderson) Hunt's family.

William Malon Hunt's family moved to Texas, apparently, after the marriage of J.E. Hunt and Katy Godwin, which took place in Cedartown, Georgia on December 10, 1893. [8]

Both families appeared on the 1900 Federal Census in Grayson County, Texas. William and his wife, Lettie--("Tilly") was an error of transcription--Lettie Amanda Dooly); his son Joseph, and his wife, Katy; William and Lettie's daughter, Lizzie; and their sons, John A. and Claud; and grandsons, Olin E. and Charly were living together. Olin E. (age 4) and Charly (age 2) were born in Texas, All other family members and their parents were born in Georgia. William and Joseph E. were identified as ""Farmers"", and John A.. and Claud as ""farm laborers"".[5]

William Malon Hunt died 11 Mar 1909 in Vernon, Texas. He was buried in Eastview Memorial Park, Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas. [1]His wife, Lettie Dooly Hunt, died in 1900. She was buried in the Gordonville Cemetery, Gordonville, Grayson County, Texas. [9] [She is the only Hunt buried in the Gordonville Cemetery at this time--January 7, 2017. --Allen Brown]
