It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

John Hylton never had a middle name. This fictional story originated in a family history book claiming that a Brient/Bryant Hilton listed in Revolutionary War payrolls was, inexplicably and without any sources, the same person as John Hylton, spouse of Obedience Cox. The Brient Hilton appears in Rev. War records at the exact time (October 1779) that John Hilton and Obediance are selling a piece of property in Bedford County VA.

Also, date of death is unknown. It is often listed as 1815, the death date of a nephew, son of Elijah Hylton. It is unknown what became of John & Obediance in the late 1700’s, no records exist mentioning either after 1785. There is a family story mentioned that “they went to Kentucky”. There may be some truth to that though I’ve found nothing definitive.
