Biography

For first marriage see[1].
Esquire of the Body (shield-bearer) to King James III.[2]
Rebuilt the Castle of Innes.[3]
Confirmed in the lands of Innes, Slelcow and Garbmaw in September 1470.[4]
Supported King James III in the rebellion of 1488. Was granted lands in Moray (Walkmyltoun, Haltoun de Lambride, Blakhillis, Halch de Depil) after the skirmish at Blackness Castle, on the condition that he remained loyal.[5] Fought for the king at Sauchieburn. After the battle and the death of the king he was summoned to parliament to answer a charge of treason, but the charges were later dropped.[6]
In August 1490 the 17 year old King James IV visited Innes.[7]
Died about 1491.[8]

Research Notes

Second marriage with Margaret of Culan, probably widow of William Rolland, by 1473.[9][10]
His sons in order of birth were given in his will as Alexander, Robert, William, George, James and Thomas.[11]
