Biography

Mary (Jacob) Holbrook immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Mary Jacob was baptized on 11 May 1632 at Hingham, Norfolk, England. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Mary. She immigrated with her parents in 1633 and the family settled in Hingham.

Nicholas, of Hingham, Norfolk, England, arrived in Boston with his wife Mary, son John, and daughter Mary on 15 Jun 1633 on the ship Elizabeth Bonaventure from Yarmouth, England, and went first to Watertown, MA. Mary Jacob married John Otis circa 1649 at Hingham, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. She was most likely John's second wife.

Mary Jacob was mentioned in the will of Nicholas Jacob on 18 May 1657 at Hingham, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, as Mary Otis.

John and Mary had eight children who lived to adulthood. The first four were born in Hingham, Massachusetts: Mary, born in 1654, and living to 1733; John, born in 1657 and living until 1727; Hannah, born in 1659; Stephen, born in 1661 and living to 1733. The last four children were born in Scituate: James, born in 1663 and living until 1690; Joseph, born in 1665 and living until 1754; Job, born in 1667 and living until 1758; and Elizabeth, born in 1671 and living until 1745.

Mary married second, John Holbrook, after June 25, 1688. [1] John Holbrook died November 12, 1699, and Mary was mentioned in his will.[2]

In 1693, Mary and her second husband John Holbrook sold land that her last husband, John Otis' had bought in 1660 from Thomas Robinson, to her son John Otis for twenty pounds.[3]
