MORGAN JAMES, of Radnor, and Elizabeth Prytherch, of the same township, were married 11, 1, 1694, at Radnor Meeting. No other James signed the marriage certificate, and it is probable, according to the Welsh custom, that he was the son of some one whose first name was James. A brother, Thomas James, lived in Whiteland township but left no children. Elizabeth Prytherch was the daughter of Evan Prytherch (also written Prothero and Protherah) and Elizabeth (Thomas?) his wife. George Thomas, the owner of 200 acres of land in Newtown, devised the same to his cousin (niece?) Elizabeth, afterward wife of Morgan James. The latter subsequently married a 2d wife, Mary, and died in Newtown about June, 1737, leaving children by last wife, Thomas, Aaron, Jonathan, Martha and Hannah James. James-25307 and James-3460 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same dates. In biography, James-3460's birthplace is listed as Pennsylvania/Wales. So one of the options matches the birthplace of James-25307. Month and year of death match. Delaware county didn't exist until 1789, when it split from Chester County. So the place of death is identical, even if it isn't listed the same way. Parents' names are basically the same, just with first/last name reversed. James-3460's biography explains this as Welsh custom--a father's first name becomes the child's last name. But with Morgan's immigration, it can easily confuse how to list the parents' names.

James-3460's biography shows a transcription of his 1694 marriage to Elizabeth Prytherch. Even if Elizabeth went by Prothero more often, the marriage record seems to indicate that both Morgans married the same woman.

The children of James-25307 are listed as children in James-3460's biography. The relationships of those children are also discussed in James-3460's biography, and they are a match for James-25307's children's relationships.

In addition to what appears on these profiles, there is a probate record which shows all of these children together--both James-3460's and James-25307's--as all belonging to the same family:

Thank you for taking the time to fully explain merge recommendations. Best I've ever seen and very helpful especially with older profiles. Additional merges are now necessary for the family members, but I cannot presently instigate them. Will attempt later in the month if someone doesn't get to it before then, as well as clean-up of this profile.

copy of comment posted to James-3460:

The profiles of the wives should be explored as possible duplicates too... many records record dual dates for January-March of that era (the year started in March - "old style" - so 1694/5 would indicate a 1694 year by the old calendar but 1695 by the new).

You might also look into Quaker sources, as one of the profiles ref'd Quaker records.

James-7489 and James-3460 are not ready to be merged because: only the death date lines up. other fields are discrepant or incomplete
