The consensus of family history claims that Thomas James was born about 1722 at Armsfield Plantation in Martin's Hundred of James City county in the Virginia Colony. He was the son of John James (1688-1725) and Justina Thurston (1691-1790). He married Alice Garland. They had a son Thruston and a daughter Lucretia, and possibly other children.
