It is accepted Scott family history that "Lucy" Lucretia James, the widow of William Scott (1720-1794), was the daughter of Thomas James and Alice Garland of James City County, Virginia. How Lucy went from James City County, Virginia, to Maryland to meet and marry the widower, William Scott, father of six children, may be a question that will never be answered. The geography brings up that reasonable question. The extremely limited amount of data also leaves room for doubt for these relationships. But that is as far as one can go until further research uncovers more information.
