Samuel Roulston Jared was born on April 12, 1868 in Putnam, Tennessee, United States, son of John Wesley Jared (1836–1886) and Amanda Elizabeth Huddleston (1840–1915).
Samuel married Susan Amonette Young (born on April 24, 1873 in Chestnut Mound, Smith, Tennessee; daughter of Preston Young and Mary Jane (Watts) Young). Their children were:
