Biograhpy

James Allison Jared was born May 8, 1865 in Illinois, the ninth of thirteen children born to Moses Alexander Jared and Marinda Jane Price. He was the great grandson of William West Jared and Elizabeth Raulston of Putnam, Tennessee, and the family returned there not long after James' birth. His mother died in 1874, and his father married Sarah Arena Thompson in 1876. From his father's second marriage James had four half-brothers and three half-sisters. James grew up in Putnam County, Tennessee, leaving for Missouri sometime after 1880. He was a minister for the Methodist Episcopal Church.

About 1895 in Pettis County, Missouri he married Lillian Ethel Wilcox. Four children are known to have been born to the couple, but one died as an infant before 1900. They resided in Bates County, Missouri in 1910, but returned to Pettis County by 1920. Sometime between 1920 and 1930 the couple divorced. His wife remained in Pettis County, and James moved to Springfield in Greene County were he residing until his death.
