Research Note

The 1718 conveyance by Henry Slade to his grandson Samuel Jasper clearly states Richard Jasper, Sr. married his daughter Hannah Slade.

Biography

Ann Jasper was born about 1690. She was the daughter of Richard Jasper, Sr. and his wife Hannah Slade, of Hyde Precinct, Bath County, North Carolina.

Jan. 5, 1718 - Henry Slade, Parish of Hyde, "did about 20 years ago....give a negro girl with all her increase to Richard Jesper then in his mother's arms, he being the eldest lawful son of Richard Jesper and Hannah, his wife, my daughter, and at the same time desired my said daughter to take the said negroe girl named Moll in possession for the use of said son, Richard, my Grandson, until he came of age or married." Therefore, gives to grandson, Samuel JESPER,issue of said negroe girl, Molly "she and her master being now dead, and all her increase, the former gift being only by word." - 2 negroe girls, Sarah and Kate, now in posession of Richard JESPER, his father, to be delivered to him on his day of marriage or when at age. Wit: Samuel SLADE, Gi. HALLEDA Beaufort[1]

Richard Jasper. October 30, 1722; probated March 30, 1723; wife. daughter Elizabeth, son Samuel, son Jonathan, daughter Ann, daughter Hannah, son in-law John Leath.[2][3]

Note on Death The year of Ann's death is not known. The estimate of 1735 is purely guesswork. Husband John Smith was married a second time to one Mary at the writing of his will in 1748, so splitting the difference between her father's death and the death of her husband is basically how it was determined. As additional research is done this may be narrowed down.
