Biography

Mrs. McMahan, 91, Oakland Star Route, died Monday at the Lebanon Care Center. Services for Margaret "Maggie" McMahan, 91, were held May 23 in White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev Theron McCloud officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Holman Funeral home. Donna Wood, soloist, sang "Victory in Jesus" and the congregation sang "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "Joy in serving Jesus." They were accompanied by Willa Fay Viele. Escorts were Ross Griffin, Earl Scott, Ray Deckard, Russell Luthy, Wayne Wood and Dean Simpson. Honorary escorts were Sherman Edwards, Oris O'Quinn, Noel Massey and Wayne Harrison.


Mrs. McMahan, daughter of George and Lilly Atkins Jay was born January 12, 1888 in Rushmore, Minnesota and died May 21 in Lebanon Care Center. She was united in marriage to William Caster and to this union three children were born. Later in life she was married to James A McMahan. To this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters, also a grandson.


Survivors include three sons, Bud McMahan, Oakland Star Route, Lebanon, Jay Caster, Worthington, Minnesota and Charles Caster of Red Wood Falls, Minnesota, one daughter, Mrs. Goldie Courson, of Worthington; a sister, Mrs. Lilly Clark, Torrance, California; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Maggie, as her friends knew her, always was willing to visit and help the sick. She helped bring many children into the world, and was known for her cooking and love of flowers. She was saved early in live and was a member of the White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church, joining September 4, 1936.


She was also a member of the Church Ladies Circle, being one of its earliest members. She was very active in her church work and enjoyed the Christian fellowship of every member.


For 17 years, she and her husband, James, operated a grocery store and station at Twin Bridges on south Highway 5. She also helped in the operation of her son's store at Russ.


The Christian memory of a loving friend, mother, and grandmother will live on forever with all her family, neighbors and many friends.
