Grace Jeffery was born to William Jeffery and Jane (Frost) Jeffery and baptised on 2 July 1797 in Dodbrooke, Devon, England, [1] the middle child of six girls and one boy.
On 31 March 1829, Grace married James Ball in East Allington, Devon, [2] and had the following four girls: Jane Jeffery, Jane, Susan, and Sarah, the last three appearing on the 1841 census with James and Grace. [3] On the 1851 census she is described as a washerwoman.
James died in 1856, however, so Grace remarried on 10 September 1868; [4] this time to widower John Weekes, and became stepmother to his four daughters and four sons. Grace and John moved to Sherford, where John had been born, and are found there on the 1871 census.[5] Grace also appears on the 1881 census.
